Battery Irwin and its two 3-inch guns, adjacent to Battery Parrott with its
90mm Anti-motor torpedo boat gun, proved to be a superior site to discuss
ordnance proper. The displays in a magazine room inside Battery Irwin included
6-inch, 10-inch and 16-inch munitions; powder cans and bags; fuses; primers;
on-carriage telescopic sights; and other ordnance related material (all inert).
CPL Winchell explains munitions to the public inside one of the magazine rooms
for Battery Irwin.
Battery Irwin was also an excellent location for interpretation of the First World War period. 2LT Felthausen and PVT Peter Morrill show off their uniforms and equipment of the period. Behind them is the rear of a 3-inch gun.
