We ran our first gun drill early in the morning. In this instance we had over
25 people on the gun deck, and after our first demonstration, we integrated
about four visitors into our gun drill.
After each gun drill, we worked individually with visitors to answer their questions and encourage them to work hands on with items that interested them. Below SGT Turner answers questions about gun pointing.
Many people moved directly from the gun platform to the plotting room. Plotting room drills were conducted mostly to train AGFA "cosmoliners" (an nickname for coast artillerymen) - in the future we plan on integrating the public into plotting drills much as we have done with the gun drills. The public response to the plotting board and its drill was very positive. Visitors showed a great deal of interest and asked many questions.
We will continue our restoration and preservation efforts and
add more material and interpretation at Battery Gunnison. For more information,
